July 12, 2007 (Des Moines Register) Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback cast himself as the “conservative alternative” to the GOP’s top-level presidential contenders Wednesday as he promoted his federal flat tax proposal during a speech to a Des Moines business group.
Brownback sought to establish himself as the candidate most in tune with the Republican Party.

Looks like Mitt Romney topped the CPAC Straw Poll with Giuliani finishing in second. McCain’s absence likely contributed heavily to his fifth place finish.

In a Iowa poll released yesterday by polling firm Strategic Vision, Giuliani is leading the Republican pack, while Edwards has the edge amongst Democrats.
